Global Water Crisis

768 million people in the world do not have safe drinking water available to them. More than 3.4 million people die each year from water, sanitation, and hygiene related causes. Water can cause many of these problems since they do not have access to safe water.

Water Problems the US faces:
  • Droughts
  • Water scarcity
In the United States there are droughts in the south west of the country. This crisis could spread to other places in the country when resources cannot replenish the growing demand.

Water Problems Abroad:
  • Water scarcity
  • Droughts
  • Diseases
  • Pollution
  • Lack of sanitation
Problems with safe drinking water is a problem for over 1 billion people.Over 2,000 children die everyday from diarrhea that is caused by contaminated drinking water. More children die from diarrheal illnesses than from HIV/AIDS and malaria combined.

  5. Jay-Z is one of the many people who have raise awareness about the water crisis, specifically in Africa. He set up some fountains there that have clean water flowing from them, instead of the kids having to walk a long distance with buckets only to fill them up with unsanitized water from a creek.

  9. According to www.unwater.org, 85% of the world population lives in the driest half of the planet. This statistic supports the idea of over population, if our population was smaller, more people could live in areas where water is easily accessible; but, this is not possible due to the size of our population.

  13. People in the mostly the south western portion of the U.S. experience problems with water due to droughts.Droughts affect 66 % of Americans whose communities depend on surface water. As for drinking water quality, there are concerns about disinfection by-products, lead, perchlorates and pharmaceutical substances, but drinking water quality in the U.S. is generally good. People in the U.S. are becoming more aware of these issues thus increasing the reuse of treated wastewater for non-potable uses.
